What you'll do
During Chinese New Year, various activities are carried out by the Chinese community, such as cleaning the house, wearing all-red clothing, eating special New Year snacks, and so on. However, for the Chinese community in Singkawang, the festivities feel even more vibrant. Here are three exciting activities you can do in Singkawang.

Your itinerary

1. Hunting for Oriental-Themed Photo Spots
During Chinese New Year, the city of Singkawang decorates every corner of the city with great enthusiasm, making you feel like you are in Hong Kong. Therefore, there are many spots that can be used as excellent photo spots. At the Tri Dharma Bumi Raya Temple, there are two phoenix lanterns that can serve as a photo backdrop. Additionally, several areas decorated with lanterns can also be a photo background with a strong New Year vibe, such as the Chinatown area of Jamthang Singkawang and the Kon Shin Thi Kiung Temple.

2. Enjoying Singkawang's Special Dish: Mie Tiaw Asuk
When in Singkawang during Chinese New Year, don't miss trying Mie Tiaw Asuk. "Asuk" is a Hakka term meaning uncle, coinciding with the fact that the sellers of this dish are predominantly older men or uncles. Mie Tiaw Asuk is white flat rice noodles cooked with a mix of garlic oil, minced garlic, soy sauce, and salt. However, what sets these noodles apart from others is the addition of sweetleaf (katuk) leaves, aside from bean sprouts. Mie Tiaw Asuk is also served on simpur leaves as a plate liner. Furthermore, Mie Tiaw Asuk is complemented with eggs to taste, either omelette or fried eggs.

3. Visiting Singkawang Cultural Center
If you want to learn more about the city of Singkawang, the Singkawang Cultural Center is the perfect destination to visit. The Singkawang Cultural Center, or SCC, is a place that houses art items and information about Singkawang. The Singkawang Cultural Center building is easily recognizable due to its unique architecture. The art items displayed vary, ranging from photos, videos, paintings, sculptures, and various other artworks that provide information about Singkawang.
